FIMI - Social Awarness Award
FIMI has always been
conscious of the social responsibilities and obligations of the mining industry.
However, in order to further encourage mining units to play a more active role
in promoting the social well-being of the people living around mining areas,
FIMI, since 1995-96, has instituted two Social Awareness Awards:
1. Sita Ram Rungta Social
Awareness Award
2. NMDC Social Awareness
Award
The Awards are given to the
mine in the following categories :
1. First class mines (as
defined by the Metalliferous Mines Regulations, 1961)
2. All other categories of
mines
The Awards (a shield to
the mine's management) are designed to recognise the mines adjudged to have
best contributed to the general upliftment and well-being of the areas
and people not directly connected with that company, compelled by no other
force other than their social conscience.
A Committee consisting of
the following members will evaluate the applications and select the

This letter is to invite
your nomination for the awards for the year 2007-08. We enclose a
questionnaire on the basis of which the marking will be done by the Award
Committee. In order to facilitate the Award Committee's assessment of your
application, we would request you to kindly send us the details of the works
done by you in respect of community development aspects only in a
video film restricted to the time limit of five minutes.
Further, we would request
you to kindly indicate the turnover of the company and percentage of the
turnover incurred on community development work within the leasehold and outside
the leasehold area.
We would also request you to kindly send us 20 sets of your
complete application which includes short write-up about your organization along
with a CD of Video film and award application fee of Rs. 10,000/- by demand
draft favouring Federation of Indian Mineral Industries payable at New Delhi
latest by 31st March, 2008. It may be noted that the
application without video CD film will not be considered for evaluation.
We may incidentally mention
that a mine which wins an award during a year is not eligible for the same
award for the next three years. Further, the corporates who have received
the FIMI Environment Awards/FIMI Social Awareness awards in past on
two or more occasions would automatically become the members of the
"Sustainable Miners' Club" when it comes into operation since it is felt that
any further awards to such companies would be a mere formality. Therefore
such organizations need not apply for the award.
Further,
the mines those who have received the FIMI Social Awareness Awards in
past and applying for the current year should clearly indicate the work done
and contribution made after the year of receiving the last award.
